Livin’ In A Box, Livin’, Livin’ In A Cardboard Box
I got back from Sainsbury’s today and spotted a humongous cardboard box in my next-door neighbours’ front garden. Huge, it was. So what was I supposed to do but knock and ask if I could nab it. It was PERFECT den material!
After I’d wrestled it through our front door (which involved collapsing it after getting stuck in the door!) I re-stuck the joints and positioned it in the living room, ready to greet Big Sis after school.
Barbie is there to show scale, look how large a box it is!
DaddyTea collected Big Sis from school today, which is a rare treat (trifold). She was thrilled. Or was she more thrilled by The Box?! Within a matter of minutes she had transformed the box into the perfect residence for her Build-a-Bears, Maria and Georgina. Blankets were laid down, bear-beds were constructed, disco lights were strung from the ceiling, and sweet foods (“because bears like honey”) were laid out.
What a happy girl she was!
Little Sis arrived home from the childminder’s and gave the box a swift glance, and hot-footed it into the kitchen for a yoghurt and a go on the iPad. She wasn’t in the least bothered, which unnerved me a bit I suppose, but in retrospect I realise it was very handy as it gave Big Sis her space (in her space!).
I wonder if they will be as understanding of one-another’s personal playing space tomorrow morning, or will there be some (loud) negotiations?!

I did the same thing for my grandkids the last time they came for a visit but of course it ended up in a brawl when the younger one kept messing everything up! I’ll have to find another cardboard box so they can have one each.
It would be wrong to assume there was no bickering here!!
Boxes are always a big hit with my kids. Boats are the latest craze. Love the tea party – so cute
Thank you! I’m tempted to hide in the myself later, just to escape the chores!
